After scoring twice against Southend on Saturday, Orient striker Kevin Lisbie has revealed his excitement as the start of the season edges closer.

Lisbie scored his third and fourth goals of pre-season in the friendly against the Shrimpers, but the forward was more relieved to have come through the game injury-free.

He said: “It’s pre-season and 85 minutes for me is good. I’m getting ready for the Carlisle game and so I’m over the moon to come through this one without any scratches or bumps.

“It’s always good to score goals but I think the main thing is getting your fitness and your sharpness and I felt quite sharp today so I’m pleased.

“It gets harder and harder, and as you get older you have to dig in more. The gaffer and the physio have been good with me and I’ve pulled out of a few sessions, making sure I get right for the game. I feel really sharp and the age isn’t kicking in yet.”

With David Mooney signing a new contract at Brisbane Road and Shaun Batt making his loan move from Millwall permanent, Lisbie is now part of a settled O’s front three. The striker feels that the experience that the trio have with each other is making pre-season easier for the front men.

“I played with Batts when I was at Millwall and I’ve played with Moons for the last year and a half. We train together all the time so I don’t think it’s going to be a problem.

“We’re going to have to rotate throughout the season because obviously only two can play at a time. We’ve got a good understanding and we understand that we’re not going to play every game so I think we’ll be alright by Carlisle.”

After starting slowly in the last two years, Lisbie emphasised the importance of a strong start to the new campaign with the first game of the season less than two weeks away.

“The way we ended last season, it’s important that we continue that and we don’t start like we have for the last two years I’ve been here. That’s on our minds making sure we don’t start like that. I think we need a good start to the season to give ourselves a chance.

“I want to get more goals than I did last season and more games. I only played 26 games last season so I’m hoping that if I get more games then I’ll get more goals and the team can do well while I’m doing that.”
