Manager delighted with third win in a row
FOLLOWING his side’s 4-1 demolition of Carlisle United, O’s manager Russell Slade hailed it the “perfect week” after three victories in seven days saw Orient move within three points of the play-off places.
He said: “We got a really nice performance today but what’s more important at this stage of the season is getting a result and we got the right one today.
“We took our opportunities at the right time today and that’s what really made the difference.
“Carlisle hit the post as well as we did. There were more chances there for us but as I say it’s about the result and we got the right one today and it’s capped what has now become a perfect week for us.”
It was the second 4-1 victory over the Cumbrians this season for the O’s and Slade admitted that Greg Abbott’s side will probably be pleased to see the back for them this campaign.
“It wasn’t an easy afternoon for them [Carlisle]. I felt for them a little bit because not too much went right for them. They lost their keeper and it was a difficult afternoon for them in the end. They kept going fair play to them and they pulled a goal back. We were disappointed with that but they kept going,” he said.
Having completed their midweek fixtures last Tuesday against Portsmouth, the O’s now have the luxury of a spare week ahead of the trip to Preston - who have lost just one of their last six - and Slade believes the extra time off will do his side good.
“We probably need a game on Tuesday or Wednesday! We seem to do well when the games come thick and fast. But no, in seriousness it gives us time to draw breath because we’ve got a really tough game on Saturday against a Preston side that are rejuvenated under Simon Grayson, so it’s going to be hard.”
