The 2013 Golf Day was a huge success as the 'Braintree Four' took home the trophy. Read the review with an exclusive gallery and video of the players on their way round
In what was the first Leyton Orient Golf Day for a number of years, almost 60 golfers descended on the fantastic members only Crondon Park Golf and Country Club on the afternoon of Wednesday 11 September.
First team players, management and back room staff, joined sponsors and supporters for an enjoyable day with prizes and pride up for grabs.
Once the rounds were complete, players enjoyed some food in the beautiful Baronial Suite at the golf course before presentations of the prizes took place with Orient Chairman Barry Hearn taking centre stage as master of ceremonies and presenting awards to the winners.
In the team event, an incredibly tight finish saw three teams tied for second, third and fourth, all with 115 points, with the team LOFC Management Team, which included Kevin Dearden (Goalkeeper Coach and Chief Scout), Jamie Jones (Goalkeeper), Andy Edwards (Academy Team Manager) and Richard Thomas (Academy Operations Manager) narrowly missing out on the prizes after a count-back was used on the back nine to decide the final positions.
Third place went to Vital IP who picked up some cases of beer and cider courtesy of sponsors Heineken while First Class Facilities Management took second place and received a golf bag each donated by PGA EuroPro Tour.
The runaway leaders of the team event with 122 points were the Braintree Four who were presented with the Leyton Orient FC Annual Golf Day trophy from O’s Chairman Barry Hearn, while they also received a box of quality golf balls again donated by PGA EuroPro Tour and individual trophies.
There were also individual prizes on offer with the winners receiving a superb presentation boxed bottle of quality Laurent Perrier champagne which were donated by Laurent Perrier as one of the sponsors of the event.
Bob Scott who was part of the Braintree Four, was in the prizes again as he picked up the nearest the pin award while Stuart Minchin of First Class Facilities Management picked up a bottle of champagne for the award for nearest the pin in two on the par 4 15th.
The final remaining prize was awarded for best individual score on stableford scoring for the day and this was awarded to darts star Wayne Mardle who was part of Chairman Barry Hearn’s team on the day.
Commercial Manager, Tom Jeffes, commented: “The golf day at Crondon Park proved to be a huge success with current club partners as well as potential new clients enjoying the day. It was also great to see the Leyton Orient management team and some of the first team players taking part.
"Crondon Park is the ideal venue to hold such an exclusive event and the day was enjoyed by all that took park which was topped off by Barry inspiring guests after the dinner! The golf day is another event that we have re-introduced and it will now become an annual club event with the next one held during the early part of the 2014-15 season.”
