PREVIEW: Gillingham (JPT)

3 September 2013

All the info ahead of our trip to Kent in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy

Form

Having made the jump from League 2 last season, Martin Allen’s side have struggled to adjust to life in League 1 and are still looking for their first win of the season. After losing their first two however, Allen has steadied the ship as they’ve battled to three draws in their last three games against Brentford, Swindon and Bristol City.

Team News

New signing Jayden Stockley goes straight into the squad after signing on loan for a month from AFC Bournemouth whilst Marvin Bartley is also available to play after extending his loan from Burnley.

Shaun Batt may also be in contention once more after coming off the bench in Saturday’s win at Colchester United.

For the home side Martin Allen has no fresh injury or suspension concerns and is likely to make a few changes for the tie with Cody McDonald, Antonio German and Charlie Allen all pushing for starting places.

Danny Hollands could also make his full debut for the club after signing on loan from Charlton Athletic late last week.

Amine Linganzi won’t return to action until Saturday at the earliest though with the midfielder still suffering with a hamstring injury sustained on international duty for Congo a couple of weeks ago.

Previous Meetings

The last time the two sides met was in an FA Cup second round encounter in November 2011. A goal from Curtis Weston on the stroke of half time was enough to book the Gills a place in the third round.

In total the two clubs have met on 64 occasions with Orient just edging the statistics having won 24 of those matches, compared to Gillingham’s tally of 23 victories.

The other 17 games have resulted in a draw.

Betting Odds

Sky Bet make the O’s narrow favourites at 11/8 with the home side at 15/8 and a draw at 12/5.

Dean Cox looks worth a bet at 11/1 for the first goal tonight and there’s a raft of other markets available here
