O's Stars Takeover Nando's!

8 April 2014

Orient players and staff takeover Brentwood restaurant in the name of charity

The Leyton Orient players and staff took over the running of the Nando’s restaurant in Brentwood on Monday evening to help raise money for two of the O’s charity partners: Haven House and St Joseph’s Hospice.

The evening was a great success as almost £600 was raised by fans buying tickets, entering the raffle and putting money in the charity buckets on the evening and the players surpassed all expectations as they ensured that over 175 customers were fed and watered throughout the evening. The club has agreed to match the money raised to take the total to near £1,200.

All of the O’s squad along with the management staff rolled their sleeves up to get stuck in as they took on all of the jobs within the restaurant such as: cleaning, manning the tills, waiting on the customers, washing up and hosting. For the full gallery of photos head to our Facebook page here.

The evening ended with a raffle drawn by the O’s skipper Nathan Clarke with a bit of help from midfielder Lloyd James as customers won a variety of prizes donated by Nando’s, the O’s and local club Sugar Hut.

“We all really enjoyed it,” said O’s skipper Nathan Clarke. “It was great fun getting stuck into all the work and it was funny seeing how into it some of the lads were getting. I think it got a bit competitive! We were only too happy to come down though as a squad as it was a bit of fun for a great cause.”

Meanwhile Brentwood Nando’s manager Adam Parkes was equally delighted with the way the evening went and said: "I would like to say many thanks to all the players, the volunteers from Haven House and St Joseph's, and most importantly, the fans for the #NandosTakeover. As on O's fan myself it was great to see what we already know - how great our club is! Nando's are proud to be associated with a community based club like the O's."
