Stadium Tours Prove Popular

8 August 2014

Local schools and groups have been popping in on a regular basis, touring the West stand and emerging from the player’s tunnel to take their place in the dugouts.

Junior schools from Tower Hamlets, Chingford, Walthamstow and as far as Pitsea, have all recently enjoyed the Orient experience as well as a local Beavers troupe. And children from a nearby Leyton nursery popped in with their dad’s as part of a Father’s Day initiative.

Hannah, one of the nursery staff, commented, “We wanted to do something for Father’s Day that was a little different and knew Orient had a great reputation for its community work so we enquired as to whether we could come for a tour, football being the ‘hook’ for the dad’s too, and we weren’t disappointed. I’m not sure who was more excited to visit all the restricted areas – the children or the dads! We had a great time.”

And Rob Tromans, a teacher at Handsworth Primary school in Chingford said, “The tour was really well structured and informative and the children really enjoyed themselves. There are lots of stop off points and Howard makes it light-hearted and inter-active which was fun for the kids.”

The one-hour tour includes a trek to the fifth floor of the West stand to view the pitch from the media balcony, a chance to be Chairman whilst popping into the Boardroom via the Olympic Suite, a look inside one of the changing rooms and, of course, getting to sit in the dugouts via the players tunnel.

If you would like more information on the tour or any other community initiatives, please contact Howard Gould at h.gould@leytonorient.net or call 0208 556 5973.

There is also the opportunity to include a sports session in the Score centre (as used by the USA Olympic squad) opposite the stadium, led by the Leyton Orient Trust coaching team.  This is ideal if you have a large number of pupils or two classes that can alternate between the tour and the sports session.
