O's boss and defender in contention for Manager and Player of the the Month after 100 per cent league record in January
ORIENT manager Russell Slade has been nominated for the Sky Bet League 1 Manager of the Month award for January whilst defender Scott Cuthbert has been also nominated for the Player of the Month prize.
The O's were magnificent in January winning all four of their games in Sky Bet League 1, conceding just one goal in the process.
Cuthbert hit top form in the month not only forming a crucial component of the O's defensive unit but also contributing in the final third with some impressive forward runs down the right hand side and a goal against Carlisle United in the 4-0 home demolition of the Cumbrians.
Having already won the prize in March and August last year, whilst also finishing up as a runner up in October, Russell Slade will be looking to secure his third award in the last 12 months.
The winners will be announced on Friday and the full list of other nominees is below.
Manager of Month
Joe Dunne (Colchester United)
The Irishman has quietly built an attacking side at Colchester. The U’s picked up seven points from three games which included convincing 3-0 and 4-2 wins over Gillingham and Carlisle United, respectively, to move up the table.
Dean Smith (Walsall)
A difficult-looking January fixture list was made to look easy in a month unbeaten. The highlight was a 5-1 away win at Notts County. Has drawn consistency from his players which helped to lift Walsall into the Play-Off places.
Mark Warburton (Brentford)
He is making Sky Bet Football League management look easy, picking up another 13 points from five unbeaten matches in January. Has made a confident transition into the job, quickly earning the respect of his players.
Player of the Month
Nicky Ajose (Peterborough United) - striker
Five goals in as many January games for the young forward on his return to the club. His sharpness around the box brought him a hat-trick in the 4-3 win over against Notts County which included a superb swerving 25-yarder.
James Tavernier (Rotherham United) – full-back
The on-loan defender proved his versatility at both right-back and left-back. Nimble and solid defensively, he breaks forward quickly at every opportunity. He set up two goals in the 3-0 win at Shrewsbury Town, scoring the other himself.
Marcello Trotta (Brentford) - striker
Has shown remarkable character after his final-day penalty miss last season. With three goals (including a penalty) and two assists, he was equally impressive for his all-round contribution as well as closing down from the front.
