NEWS: Simpson Signs New Deal

15 January 2014

Forward commits with the O's until the end of the season

LEYTON ORIENT forward Robbie Simpson has today (Wednesday) signed a new contract with the club that will keep him at the O's until the end of the season.

Having been without a club, Simpson signed for the O's in November on a short-term basis and has since made three starts and eight sub appearances, most recently starting the 4-0 win over Carlisle.

The forward is delighted to extend his stay and hopes he can start finding the back of the net between now and the end of the season.

"I'm very happy, I've enjoyed my time here, I've settled in and built a relationship with the players, staff and everyone around the club and I'm pleased to continue that," said Simpson.

"I want to keep on getting sharper, I feel like I've been a bit sharper every time I've played and hopefully my luck will change in front of goal! On another day against Carlisle I might have had a hat-trick but I know I need to start chipping in with goals now as well and the ultimate goal is promotion for the football club.

"There's more to come from me. When I first came it was pretty clear that I wasn't match fit but I knew that would improve and it has, and now I feel my performances are up to a level nearer where they should be I just need goals now as at the end of the day that's what strikers are judged on."

O's boss Russell Slade was equally pleased with the news, saying: "It's great news for us to have Robbie on board longer term. He came here under difficult circumstances having been without a club but has made real progress and fitted into the group really well. I know there's more to come from him.

"It's been a good window for us so far and Robbie committing only strengthens our position, though there's still a bit of work to be done."
