LEYTON ORIENT defender Gary Sawyer put pen to paper on a new contract last week and admitted it was an easy decision for him to commit to the O’s for another year.
“I’m really happy to sign the new deal,” revealed Sawyer. “It’s a great group of lads and there’s great people at the football club and I’m more than happy to stay. As soon as I signed here two years ago I could tell straight away that it is a top club and a real family one.
“Despite the Wembley disappointment, we can’t allow all the achievements from last season to get lost. Even though I didn’t play all the games, it was a pleasure to be involved.”
Sawyer made 28 appearances for the O’s in the last campaign, down on his 43 the season before, but has vowed to come back fighting for his place again for the forthcoming campaign.
“I want to come back fighting and play as many games as I can, I’ll be raring to go,” he said. “The last year has been hard for me as it was the first time in my career that I’ve been out of the side and it’s difficult when it is stop start like that. But the lads helped me when I wasn’t playing. I like to think I’m a good professional and keep myself well and ready to come in when needed.
“I was lucky enough to play in some big games last year and enjoyed every minute of it.”
