RESSIES REPORT: Cambridge 0-2 Orient

23 September 2014

O's development team pick up win on their travels

The O’s development squad continued their unbeaten start to the season with an excellent 2-0 win at Cambridge United.

With a first team game in the evening, Andy Edwards took a young side to Cambridgeshire that included Italian trialists Thiago De Freitas and Geovanni Scampini.

The young O’s put in an excellent shift though at Clare College and were good value for their 2-0 victory.

The early stages of the game saw the home side come close through Matt Lowe who fired over on three minutes and Tom Bender who was inches away from getting on the end of Bobby-Joe Taylor's corner on 12.

However, it was the Orient boys who took the lead a minute later through skipper Harry Lee.  The young pro, jinked his way through the U's midfield before firing a low shot past the U’s goalkeeper from 18 yards.

The home side responded well and first year scholar Sam Sargent in the O's goal had to be at his best to maintain Orient’s lead.  De Freitas almost extended the Orient lead on the stroke of half time, his shot ending up just wide after decent work from Scott Kashket.

Cambridge started the second period brightly and put Orient under some pressure before Mitch Austin fired just wide on 56 minutes before the visitors extended their lead. Flying full-back Kane Adams broke down the left hand side and his cross was met superbly by Victor Adeboyejo, who headed past Will Norris to double their lead.

Bobby Joe Taylor came closest to pulling one back for United, his shot ended up wide of Sam Sargent's goal on 70 minutes, but Orient held on for a win and a clean sheet to make four points from their first two games in the Final Third Development League.

O’s Academy Director Edwards was delighted with the win and performance and said: “I’m pleased with the lads today, we had a young side and managed the game well. I’m delighted with the clean sheet too as we came under pressure at times but remained patient and took our chances when they came.”
