DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE REPORT: AFC Bournemouth 5-2 Orient

16 April 2015

Young O's impress despite defeat

Academy Director Andy Edwards was delighted with the showing of the young O’s side despite a 5-2 Development League defeat at AFC Bournemouth this afternoon.

The only senior professional in the Orient team was Harry Lee, while the squad also included 16-year-old Myles Judd.

That was in comparison to a Cherries outfit which contained several seasoned professionals, including goalscorers Tokelo Rantie (2), Ian Harte, Eunan O’Kane and former O’s loanee Jayden Stockley.

On target for Orient was Freddy Moncur, who gave the visitors a fifth-minute lead and the teams went in at half time level at 1-1 after Rantie netted an equaliser.

Rantie doubled his and Bournemouth’s tally as O’Kane, Harte and Stockley also found the net, before Scott Kashket netted an 85th minute consolation for the O’s.

But Edwards was impressed with the performance on the whole, saying: “We played excellently in the first half and I thought we showed a great attitude against a side who would comfortably compete in a Championship fixture.

“We were punished for a few lapses in concentration and they netted three goals in a 10-minute spell.

“But all credit to the lads, it was a good performance from us and games like this will further their development.”

The O’s Development League campaign continues next Tuesday (April 21) when they host Bournemouth in the reverse fixture (2pm kick-off).
