Maguire eager to force his way into first-team contention at OrientNew Leyton Orient loan signing Joe Maguire jumped at the chance to join the O’s and is keen to make the most of the experience.
Maguire joined the O’s on an initial one-month youth loan this afternoon, and can go straight in to the matchday squad for tomorrow’s match against Bristol Rovers.
And the 19-year-old admits he cannot wait to get started in E10.
“When I heard there was interest from Orient I was ready to take the opportunity, the team are challenging to win the league. I want a team with big hopes and the team play good football so I am looking forward to it,” Maguire told leytonorient.com.
Predominantly a left back, Maguire can play anywhere along the back four, and is a regular member of Liverpool’s under-21 squad.
His form last season saw him earn a call-up to the first-team squad for their pre-season tour of Bangkok, Brisbane, Adelaide and Malaysia.
“I was with the first team in pre-season and it is about getting some more experience. When I heard a team like Leyton Orient were in for me then I jumped at the chance,” he added.
Maguire joins Frazer Shaw in the O's left back department, while Alan Dunne can also operate in the position. And he knows he hasn't got it easy if he wants to force his way into the starting XI at Orient.
“Every defender likes to keep clean sheets but I like to get forward as well, so hopefully I can help in both areas.
“I know I can’t just walk into this side. It is strong squad so I am going to have to work hard to get into it.”
