O's assistant manager reflects on Boxing Day victory over PortsmouthLeyton Orient assistant manager Andy Hessenthaler praised the character shown by the players following their 3-2 victory at home to Portsmouth.
Having fallen behind to Gareth Evans' fourth minute goal, O's top scorer Jay Simpson equalised from the penalty spot on the 23rd minute after Pompey's Adam Webster had been dismissed for bringing down Jobi McAnuff in the box.
Ollie Palmer then headed Orient ahead in first half stoppage time before adding a second on the 52nd minute, two minutes after captain Mathieu Baudry had been given his marching orders for reacting to a challenge from Michael Doyle.
With both sides down to 10 men Pompey's Evans struck again on the 66th minute to set up a tense final period, but Hessenthaler felt that the O's showed fantastic resilience to hold on for the three points.
