O's youth team player Protic earns national call-up

The O's have produced many youth internationals over the years, and Marko Protic is the latest in a long line after he was invited to attend the Serbian under-13 National Squad training camp last month.

Marko, who has played in a number of positions during his time with Orient,  now predominantly operates as a centre back. And his form for the O's hasn't gone unnoticed by Serbia, and as a result featured in their latest training camp.

“I’m delighted to have been called up for the camp and it’s nice to play for your country," Protic told leytonorient.com

Protic, who looks up to O's skipper Nathan Clarke and Mathieu Baudry in the current first team, has been with the club since the age of nine and has progressed well in each of his last four years under the Academy coaches at the club.

He added: “I’ve really enjoyed playing here and the staff have made me a better player in every position. I’ve progressed a lot as a player since I joined the club.”

And Academy Manager Richard Thomas was naturally delighted with the progress Protic is making.

“Marko brings great personality and a fantastic work ethic to every session which aligned with his game understanding and technical ability meant it wasn't a complete surprise that he would get such recognition,” he said.

“Marko is the seventh player in 18 months to be invited from our Academy to work at an international camp which is pleasing for everyone involved and something we are very proud of as it reflects well on the work taking place here and gives belief to other players that the pathway is there if they are dedicated enough."

Protic is expected to be invited back for the final Serbian national camp of 2015 later this year.
