Pitch Renovations 2015

24 June 2015

Head Groundsman Colin James gives the lowdown on the work being carried out on the pitch over the summer.

After another busy season of pitch usage at Brisbane Road, work began on Tuesday 2nd June to get the pitch back to a pristine condition ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.

After taking off 10mm from the top surface, the pitch was loaded with 80 tonnes of sand and then vertidrained to help with drainage, before new seed and fertiliser spread across the playing area. Thermal covers were then placed over the surface to keep temperatures up during the cool nights and help speed up the germination process.

The grass is growing back well and underwent its first cut last week, while it will continue to be trimmed as it goes from strength to strength ahead of the season opener on August 8th.

Watch the video below of when Colin met Colin as Orient’s media man, Colin Munford, met Head Groundsman, Colin James to talk about the pitch renovations in a bit more detail.
