REPORT: Orient 2-1 Peterborough

1 May 2015

O's reserves end season with a win

Scott Kashket’s brace ensured Leyton Orient ended their Final Third Development League campaign with a 2-1 victory against Peterborough United.

On the back of their late defeat against Gillingham on Tuesday, Orient once again named a young side as the starting XI consisted of youth team players.

The O’s enjoyed a bright start to the game and Scott Kashket had the first chance of the match when his low shot from 20-yards was parried behind by Posh goalkeeper Henrich Ravas, who then had to be alert to parry Trialist’s volley away for another corner.

Orient were enjoying the majority of possession and Shola Oladipo was presented with the next chance as he raced on to a Kashket through ball but failed to get the ball out of his feet in time and his shot was blocked behind by Liam Marshall.

Moments later Nick Brown carried the ball out of his own half and shrugged off several challenges before threading a pass through for Oladipo, who then slotted the ball beyond Ravas but the goal was correctly ruled out for offside.

Having enjoyed the better chances early on Orient goalkeeper Ben Card then pulled off a brilliant reaction save to keep out Jack Friend’s effort after Charles Haylen-Weston had got the better of Kane Adams and Sam Ling down the right before pulling the ball back to the six-yard line.

The O’s were to make the breakthrough moments later however as Scott Kashket fired the hosts ahead. A ball into the Peterborough was flicked on and the forward raced inside the box to poke a finish beyond Ravas and into the far corner.

Orient were forced into a substitution soon as Christian Owusu replaced the injured Alderson and the winger nearly provided an early contribution as he dragged a shot wide of the Posh goal.

Following a quiet start to the second half Peterborough pushed forward for an equaliser and they were denied by the woodwork when Joe Hood’s left footed effort beat the dive of Card only to come back off the post.

Freddy Moncur and Oladipo then squandered chances for the O’s in quick succession before Posh skipper Jack Friend curled an effort from outside the box just over the bar.

With 15 minutes remaining Peterborough’s Charles Haylen-Weston worked an opening when he shrugged off Myles Judd’s challenge inside the penalty area but he could only drag his shot wide of the O’s goal.

Haylen-Weston had an even better chances a couple of minutes later as he bundled he way in between Michael Clark and Adams to race through one-on-one but again he could only direct an effort wide.

As the game entered added time Orient were then awarded a penalty as Kashket battled against Ethan Lee to keep Judd’s clearance in play and ventured into the penalty area before being pulled down by Lee.

Kashket then dusted himself down to cheekily dink the resulting spot-kick down the middle and extend the O’s advantage.

Peterborough did manage to pull a goal back however as Harry Kyprianou was brought down by Card and another penalty was awarded. Liam Marshall then stepped up to smash the penalty into the top corner for what was the final kick of the game.
