O's proud to support Haven House Pumpkin Plod

22 October 2015

Leyton Orient has got behind this weekend’s Pumpkin Plod for Haven House Children’s Hospice.

The annual family fundraiser takes place on Sunday 25 October with adults and children encouraged to wear orange and dress up as pumpkins for Haven House’s sponsored 2k, 5k and 10k walks, which start at The White House, High Road, Woodford Green.

Recently O's midfielder Dean Cox, Howard Gould, Community Liaison Officer and the club’s mascot, Theo, visited the Hospice’s Holistic Care Centre.

Leyton Orient has supported Haven House for several years and Theo will be at the Pumpkin Plod on Sunday.

Speaking of his visit to Haven House, Cox said:  “I’ve been coming here for more than six years and it’s great for the club to show our support to the kids and their families. We help with fundraising as much as we can through match day collections and other events. Haven House is very close to Leyton Orient’s hearts.”

Mike Palfreman, Chief Executive of Haven House, added: “Leyton Orient have been strong supporters of Haven House for many years and it’s great to have them backing the Pumpkin Plod.

“We really value the club’s time and commitment to local life-limited children and their families. Dean has visited the hospice several times before and we are always impressed with his enthusiasm and dedication.”

Sunday’s Pumpkin Plod will see Britain’s Got Talent East London Dance crew IMD Legion helping to get everyone ready by performing warm-up exercises from 2pm ahead of the start of the walks at 3pm.

Members of Haven House ‘Buddies’, the hospice’s sibling support service, will also get the chance to strut their stuff in a dance workshop with IMD Legion.

Haven House will be selling an array of pumpkin paraphernalia from head poppers to glow bands, leg warmers and everyone who registers will receive a free Pumpkin Plod t-shirt.

The walks are wheelchair friendly and kids can bring scooters. Refreshments and sweets will also be provided along with games and pumpkins.
The 5k and 10k walks will take plodders up to Holly House Hospital at Buckhurst Hill before snaking back to Haven House.

There will be prizes for the best-dressed pumpkin and the pumpkin that raises the most funds.
