Hendon and Cox take top honours in monthly League Two awardsThe O's have completed a league double with Head Coach Ian Hendon and midfielder Dean Cox both scooping the Sky Bet League Two Manager and Player of the Month awards respectively.
Hendon masterminded the only 100 per cent record in the Sky Bet Football League in August, while Cox helped Orient along the way with two goals and five assists.
Hendon said: “I am delighted to pick up this award, but really it is an award for the team and we wouldn’t have achieved this without the hard work of everyone at the Club. Everyone is on board and the support we have received is fantastic.
“While we are fully aware of the good start we have made, it is only a start and we are five games into a 46-game season. It is now my job to try and maintain that good start over the course of the campaign.”
George Burley chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel.
He said: “Ian has the only 100 per cent record in the Sky Bet Football League. Winning all five games and having a 13/3 goal difference is an incredible performance from Leyton Orient.”
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Ian has undoubtedly taken control of a squad with a great deal of talent, but being able to turn that into results isn’t always the easiest task.
“With a 100 per cent record so far, Orient fans will be hoping that they can banish memories of last season and return to Sky Bet League One at the first attempt.”
Cox has been the general behind Orient’s perfect record in August. Given a free all-action role at the tip of a midfield diamond, his energy and creative nous were evident in his five assists and a pinpoint free-kick against Dagenham & Redbridge, one of his two goals.
Orient manager Ian Hendon said: “I am really pleased that Dean has picked up this award. He plays a vital role in our team with his goals and the chances he has created for his team-mates.
“He has produced some fine performances throughout the month and it is great for both the Club and the team to have won both awards for the month.”
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Dean Cox has reinvigorated this Leyton Orient side and looks dangerous every time he touches the ball.
“Adding two goals to five brilliant assists, he has been at the heart of all of Orient’s creativity and Ian Hendon will know it is key to keep him in this form for Orient’s 100% record to continue.”
