Orient youngsters fall to defeatLeyton Orient U18’s run of victories came to an end as they fell to a 3-0 loss at the league’s highest goalscorers Luton Town.
Opportunities came the O’s way early on, but a Freddy Hinds double and one for Cotter saw Orient lose out.
Striker Michael Obafemi was called up to make his first U18 start after impressing with 17 goals in seven games for the U16s.
The game started in an entertaining fashion and didn’t slow down until the half time whistle. Early chances for Luton were countered just as fluently by Orient attacks.
Early chances fell for Charley Barker and Victor Adeboyejo, and in the 12th minute the O’s produced a well-worked set piece, but Myles Judd’s back-post volley went over the bar.
Sam Sargeant in the Orient goal then pulled off some very acrobatic saves, before Adeboyejo again broke past the back four, but the Hatters goalkeeper read the situation well and gathered.
The O’s were to fall behind though as Hinds latched on to a throughball and slotted home a half volley from the edge of the box into the far corner, before he then doubled his tally as the forward placed a curling effort into the net.
Orient finished the half strongly with a big five-minute push, with Barker having one cleared off the line, though the hosts also struck the bar.
The second half was less action-packed and despite some assertive play early on, the O’s failed to turn it into a much-needed goal.
Josh Koroma and Steven Alazate were brought on for the O’s in place of Obafemi and Sam Telling respectively, however, the hosts added a third when Kavan Cotter broke down the right and coolly slotted home to seal the victory for Luton.
