Young O's dominant in big winLeyton Orient U18’s produced a strong performance against Stevenage as they emerged 4-0 victors at the weekend.
Defensively sound, creative in midfield and lethal in front of goal, the O’s were on top throughout with goalkeeper Sam Sargeant spending the majority of the game as a spectator as two goals in either half from Sam Alderson, Rian McLean, Josh Koroma and Tristan Abrahams put Orient on course for a fine win.
The signs of a good game were instant for Orient with the first 10 minutes being controlled with a fluid passing game that was continuously opening holes down the wings and over the top. And it was this great play that led to the opening goal as Abrahams drew a foul 25 yards out, Sam Alderson then stepped up for the free kick and curled it superbly into the left corner smashing in off the post.
Orient then could have had a 2nd as a Judd cross was bounced around the box like a pinball, with at least two Stevenage players putting their bodies on the line to block before it was cleared.
Another goal was clearly on the horizon and it came when Rian McLean made a driving run towards to box before neatly slotting the ball in the corner for a 2-0 lead.
Emerging for the second half Stevenage had a good few minutes of possession, but Michael Clark and Aron Pollock were regularly winning headers to keep the hosts at bay.
Supremacy was once again attained as captain Clark nearly scored from a corner. But the O’s would add a third when he won a penalty after a clumsy challenge, which he took himself and calmly converted.
Steven Alzate and Josh Koroma then made way for Charley Barker and Michael Obefemi, before Stevenage had their only chance of the game, but Clark was there to clear it off the line.
Henry Ochieng was then replaced by Pat Adamson, and his impact was almost instant as he threaded a delightful ball through to Obafemi who squared for Abrahams and he placed his goal through the keeper’s legs to complete a dominant 4-0 win, which keeps them in contention for a top-three spot in the league.
