U18 REPORT: Barnet 0-4 Leyton Orient

15 August 2016

O's youngsters sting the Bees

Leyton Orient U18s recorded their second victory of the season with a dominant 4-0 win away to Barnet.

Doubles from Tristan Abrahams and Josh Koroma secured the victory and another clean sheet puts the young O’s on the right path for the start of the season.

Koroma came back into the side this week after missing the first game due to his continued involvement with the first team, where he was an unused substitute at Cheltenham Town.

After a scrappy start to the game and losing possession cheaply, Richard Thomas’ side started to pass the ball around nicely and created chances for the two forwards.

After a few missed chances Koroma opened up the scoring on 35 minutes. A long ball from Dan Happe in defence was met by Koroma who made sure he was first to the ball, and by pressuring the centre back he forced his way through on goal. He took a couple of touches inside and finished well, a simple but effective goal to make it 1-0 Orient going into the break.

Following the interval, the O’s remained on top, and with 61 minutes played they finally took advantage of their set pieces as Abrahams doubled their lead. A combination of headers from centre back pair Happe and Rian McLean led to a loose ball falling to Abrahams who lashed the ball into the back of the net.

After being 2-0 up the Orient defence were finally put under some pressure by Barnet. Benji Aghadiuno received the ball in the box and lined himself up for the shot but Happe got his body in the way and ended the attack.

Koroma doubled his tally on 73 minutes making it 3-0 to the O’s. The forward with the ball at his feet, turned the defender, created space for himself and finished in the bottom corner from 25 yards out.

An impressive performance from the 17-year-old, who has clearly benefited from time spent with the first team.

Abrahams then finished off the scoring through a well-worked team goal. Orient won a free-kick in the opposition half which was taken quickly by captain Charley Barker. Substitute Sam Dalby collected and played a well-timed ball across the box which Abrahams put into the back of net.

The pace and power of the O’s attack was too much for Barnet to handle, the home side couldn’t get to grips with the positioning and intelligent runs of the Orient forwards.

Ultimately the balls over the top and down the channels were crucial the for O’s, and Thomas’ side took advantage of Barnet’s naivety in defence and came away with an impressive victory.

The under-18s are back in action on Saturday when they host Gillingham.
