MASSEY: 'There is plenty more to come'

Winger keen to build on solid first outing

Leyton Orient winger Gavin Massey admits there is more to come from the O’s as they continue their build up to the 2016-17 Sky Bet EFL League Two campaign.

The 23-year-old, a summer signing from Colchester United, featured in the O’s 2-1 pre-season win at former club Wealdstone setting Jay Simpson up for Orient’s equaliser, before Sandro Semedo’s effort sealed the victory.

While being content with the victory, Massey knows there is plenty of room for improvement during the early stages of pre-season.

“It is always good to start off with a win, our performance needed to be better though,” he told leytonorient.com.

“We started off sloppy, but it is still early days and we are looking to put things right. Winning builds confidence and hopefully we can continue to do that.”

The midfielder is one of eight summer signings for the O’s and was part of the squad which made the trip to Italy, and being one of the new players at the club, Massey certainly felt the training camp was beneficial.

“It’s been good. Italy was nice experience and to get some team bonding,” he added.

“I got to know the boys really well and I think I have built up a connection with a couple on the pitch. It is what pre-season is all about for the new players and we are going to have to carry on learning, but it has been a good start so far.

“The squad looks strong as well. The club wanted to get their business done early and we have signed a few players, whether the club brings in any more remains to be seeing but I feel we are looking strong.

“It was humid in Italy, but that is what pre-season is for. It was a good week of work and now we are back playing some games over here so it should be good.”

For a new player it is all about forming partnerships with his new team-mates and Massey believes he is doing just that.

“I have played with Sean at Colchester for a year and I assisted Jay in the game so I am starting to learn his moves,” he remarked.

“It is important to do that because we need to win games this season and the likes of him will be scoring goals, but it is good to build up these partnerships and hopefully we can do more of that over the course of the season.”
