REPORT: Dover 2-0 Orient

16 July 2016

O's lose out at Dover

A goal in either half saw the O’s slip to a pre-season defeat at the hands of Dover Athletic.

Ricky Miller gave the hosts the lead in the opening period, and though Orient had opportunities in the second period, a fine Tyrone Marsh free-kick sealed victory for the Kent side.

Dover started brightly and had the first real opportunity of the encounter when Ricky Modeste and Ricky Miller produced some neat build up play before Jim Stevenson saw an effort well held by Sam Sargeant in the O’s goal.

Orient were spending much of the half on the back foot, and only some last-ditch interventions from Tom Parkes prevented any chances.

Ricky Miller was lively for the hosts and he worked another opportunity after getting the better of Erichot, only to see his effort deflected behind for a corner by Sean Clohessy.

And it was the Whites who went in front as Ricky Modeste flicked the ball on to Ricky Miller and he slotted past Sargeant.

Minutes later it could have been 2-0 when Miller was again played through, but he dragged his shot wide with Sargeant onrushing.

As the half drew to a close, the O’s started to get more of the ball and the best chance fell to McCallum as he got on the end of Dean Cox’s free-kick, but the effort was wide.

Andy Hessenthaler made eight changes at the break and it was already a brighter start from the visitors with a Sandro Semedo shot blocked, before Armand Gnanduillet earned two opportunities, with one over the bar and the other saved by Steve Arnold.

Semedo forced Arnold into his first save after a good breakaway involving smart play from both Jay Simpson and Armand Gnanduillet.

However, it was Chris Kinnear’s side who doubled the lead on 64 minutes when they won a free-kick 25 yards out and substitute Tyrone Marsh curled it into the top corner with little Cisak could do in the O’s goal.

ORIENT FIRST HALF XI: Sargeant, Clohessy, Erichot, Parkes, Kennedy, Massey, Atangana, Weir, Cox, McCallum, Palmer.
SECOND HALF XI: Cisak, Clohessy (Doherty 71), Hunt, Brown, Kennedy (Judd 71), Moore, Kelly, Semedo, Massey (Koroma 66) Simpson, Gnanduillet.
