O's pick up win at Wealdstone
Orient picked up a come-from-behind victory as they saw off Wealdstone at Grosvenor Vale.
Eddie Oshodi put the hosts in front, before Jay Simpson levelled for the O's and Sandro Semedo's fierce strike sealed the victory.
The O’s included new signings Callum Kennedy, Tom Parkes, Gavin Massey, Liam Kelly, Robbie Weir and Jordan Bowery among their starting line-up at Grosvenor Vale, and it was a bright start for the O’s.
A quick breakaway in the second minute saw Robbie Weir, wearing the captain’s armband, find Massey with a fine cross-field ball.
He in turned played the ball into the path of Bowery who was denied by the legs of goalkeeper Jonathan North. The rebound feel to the onrushing Kelly, but his effort was over the bar.
However, the O’s fell behind when former Orient player David Hunt’s free-kick found its way into the box and was played into the path of Eddie Oshodi who shot low left footed into the corner of the net past Alex Cisak with five minutes on the clock.
Both sides continued to find their feet in the early pre-season work out, but it was the O’s who drew level and it was last season’s top goalscorer Jay Simpson who found the mark.
Massey laid the ball back into his path and the striker, who scored 25 goals last term in League Two, found the back of the net with a curling effort past North.
It didn’t take too much longer for the O’s to find themselves in front though and it was another quick breakaway which did the trick.
Simpson laid the ball deep in the O’s half to Kelly who then released Semedo. The Portuguese winger then produced a mazy run with the ball down the left before firing low left-footed into the bottom corner.
Wholesale changes came at the break for the O’s, with Parkes the only player remaining from the first half line-up.
The second period started with the O’s creating the first opportunity, with Dean Cox firing a shot which was well held by North, while up the other end, Josh Doherty cleared a Tom Hamblin header off the line.
Cox, Gnanduillet and Hunt combined for the latter to see a shot saved and as the game drew to a close, Wealdstone had one final chance to level, but Sahr Kabba’s effort was well held by Charlie Grainger.
Andy Hessenthaler’s side will continue their pre-season campaign at Dover Athletic on Saturday.
