The Q2W Tommy Johnston South Stand

31 July 2016

THE Q2W Tommy Johnston South Stand was opened in time for the 1999/2000, replacing an open terrace demolished three years previously.

The O's had played in a three-sided stadium during that three-year period, so the arrival of the new behind the goal facility was much heralded.

Unfortunately, the new stand could not be christened with a win, as Brighton & Hove Albion won the first Division Three match in front of the structure, but it nevertheless won the quick approval of O's supporters.

With a capacity of 1,336, the South Stand offers excellent viewpoints throughout the seating area, due to the raised nature of the first row over a dry moat and walkway.

The South Stand is also home to a popular bar.

It was renamed the Tommy Johnston Stand after the passing of the legendary O's forward in 2007.
