DOHERTY: 'I am excited about what is to come'

6 June 2016

New signing Josh Doherty is hoping to hit the ground running after signing for the O’s.

The left back has put pen to paper on a one-year deal which begins on July 1 following his release from Premier League side Watford, with an option to extend his stay in E10, and the Northern Irishman is keen to get settled into his new environment.

“It Is a very big move for me. I have heard a lot of good things about the club and I am excited about what is to come,” Doherty told leytonorient.com.

“Since moving here I have loved living in England and always dreamed of coming over to play in this country.

The youngster has come through the ranks at Watford having made the move over from Ards in Northern Ireland, and is hoping to build on that, and his international experience having played from U16-U21 football for his country.

“Playing at international level has been a great experience and hopefully I can get off to a good start here at Orient, impress the manager and make the most of my time by playing as many games as I possibly can,” he added.

“From my time at Watford I have learnt a lot about the left back position having initially played in midfield back home in Northern Ireland.

“My family still live in Northern Ireland and I am looking forward to having them come over and watch me play in an Orient shirt.”
