Young O's make it five from five in Merit League 1Leyton Orient U18’s made it five straight wins and straight clean sheets as Josh Koroma and Tristan Abraham netted in a strong display against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.
Koroma provided the perfect poachers goal within the opening 10 minutes, latching onto a long ball from the back. It bounced perfectly for the in-form front man to take one bounce and toe poke the ball past the onrushing keeper.
It should have been his second of the game as moments earlier a defensive error led to a one-on-one chance that was well saved.
Koroma’s confidence was clear to see as just five minutes after his goal, he left his marker standing with some cute touches, but couldn’t find a ball to his strike partner Abrahams.
Dan Happe was unlucky with a free header from a corner, as it fell inches wide, while Abrahams was then unfortunate with a blocked shot, before sending the second ball into the keeper’s arms without much pace.
Orient opened the second half as they did the first, by notching another goal within the opening minutes. Good hold up play Abrahams brought Sam Alderson and Pat Adamson into play. With Adamson drawing away the defender, Abrahams played a quick one-two with Alderson in the box and slotted home at the near post.
Captain Michael Clark came close with a half volley from a corner, while Koroma misjudged an Alderson cross and just missed making contact on the ball.
Alderson nearly added to his already impressive collection of highlight reel free-kicks, but it clipped the top of the bar. Adamson and Abrahams worked another great one-two for Adamson to go through but another top save from the Pilgrims keeper denied Orient a third.
Academy Coach Danny Webb was pleased that the team improved on last week’s performance against Exeter, saying: “I think last week’s performance was possibly the worst one we’ve had over the last four weeks yet we won.
“I think today was an improved performance but it wasn’t excellent, which says a lot about us that we can play okay and yet still win comfortably.
“It’s great to see that Michael Clark has been able to slide so well back into the back four without looking like his had much time away, and I think combined as a back five with Rian McLean, Dan Happe, SamTelling and goalkeeper Sam Roach you can see that they are all improving, but the whole team deserves credit for the clean sheets.”
This weekend sees the young O’s make the short trip to Southend United as they look to maintain their 100 per cent record in the division.
