FA YOUTH CUP REACTION: Abrahams - 'We looked sharp from the start'

3 November 2016

O's striker keeps up impressive goalscoring run with double in last night's Cup success

O’s two-goal hero Tristan Abrahams always felt it was going to be a good night for the side as soon as he broke the deadlock in their 6-0 win over Southend United in the FA Youth Cup.

Abrahams, added the second soon after, before his strike partner Sam Dalby got his name on the scoresheet as Richard Thomas’ side went on to record an emphatic win with further strikes from Dalby, Josh Koroma and Ruel Sotiriou.

Though disappointed not to pick up the match ball with a hat-trick on the night, the striker was more than happy with his and the O’s performance.

“There were nerves before the game because of the importance of the game, but getting the result is unbelievable,” he told leytonorient.com.  “It is the first time I have played in front of a crowd of that size and I really enjoyed it. Hopefully there is a lot more like that to come.

“It is always good when you get on the scoresheet, and I am slightly disappointed not to get the hat-trick but most importantly we got the win tonight.

“I thought we looked sharp right from the start and created a number of chances. As soon as I got the goal I thought it was going to be a good night for us and that proved to be the case. On other night we could have scored a few more, but we cannot be too disappointed when you score six.”

Abrahams’ brace took his season’s tally to 15 goals in all competitions, and the striker feels the hard work on the training pitch is paying off, while also combining well with strike partner Dalby.

“I am on a good goalscoring run and I put it all down to hard work,” he added. “I always listen to the advice from Richard Thomas and Omer Riza.

“They give me a lot of good feedback and advice on how to play the game movement wise and it is helping me out a lot this season.

“I really enjoy playing alongside Sam up front. He brings me into the game and we both link up well. He’s strong in the air and I think we both feed off each other. When we combine we are dangerous.”
