NEWS: Trust launch Heritage Lottery Fund project

29 November 2016

Leyton Orient Trust is launching its latest Heritage Lottery Fund research project entitled Women’s Football and the Home Front – The East London Story tomorrow at the Score Centre, Leyton from 3-4pm.

The small exhibition traces the development of the Womens’ game during the pre and First World War period across East London and how it was taken up in particular by the female workforce in munitions factories and led to the creation of a thriving female football scene in the immediate post war period.

This was followed by the FA banning the womens’ game from the 1920’ s until the 1970’s and the re-emergence of the female game over the last 25 years and Leyton Orient’s role in this.  The exhibition will be combined on the day with the popular,  ‘Clapton Orient –They Took the Lead’ Exhibition that was created last year to document the story of the  Clapton Orient players and staff who fought in World War One and was the subject of the recent ‘The Greater Game’ play at Southwark Playhouse.
