PREVIEW: Southend United v Leyton Orient

All the information ahead of the O's trip to Roots Hall in the Checkatrade Trophy

Alberto Cavasin will be hoping to get his O’s managerial reign off to a winning start when they travel to League One side Southend United in the Checkatrade Trophy tonight.

The new O’s manager was appointed on Sunday, and has signed a two-year deal in E10.

Orient go into the game on the back of goalless draw at Barnet as they picked up their first point in four games, and lie in 17th place in League Two.

Last time out in the competition the O’s emerged as 3-1 victors over Stevenage, with two goals coming from Paul McCallum and one for Sandro Semedo.

Southend drew 1-1 on Saturday with Peterborough United, as Marcus Maddison’s injury time strike denied the Shrimpers all three points.

Anthony Wordsworth had put Phil Brown’s side in front 12 minutes from timeand they currently find themselves in 21st in League One.

In their opening Checkatrade Trophy tie the Blues emerged 2-0 victors against Brighton and Hove Albion thanks to goals from former O David Mooney and Harry Kyprianou.

TEAM NEWS

The O’s can welcome back skipper Robbie Weir with his three-game ban not applying to the Checkatrade Trophy.

Midfielder Harry Cornick and Sandro Semedo both came off injured in Saturday’s goalless draw at Barnet, while midfielder Nigel Atangana remains a doubt with a groin/hip flexor injury.

The O’s are 12/5 to win tonight’s encounter at Roots Hall, while the hosts are 11/10 favourites. The draw is available at 5/2.

Gavin Massey and Jay Simpson lead the goalscoring market for the O’s and are both 11/2 to score the first goal this evening, while former O David Mooney is 5/1 to open the goalscoring for the hosts.
