PREVIEW: Semedo - 'We want to end the season on a positive note'

28 April 2017

Winger reflects on Portugal under-21 camp and previews tomorrow's local derby

Orient winger Sandro Semedo insists the players want to end the season on a high despite relegation already being confirmed.

A 3-0 defeat last weekend at Crewe Alexandra saw the O’s proud 112-year history in the English Football League has come to an end, and though everyone is disappointed at the situation regarding the club, Semedo wants to give his all in the final two games to give something back to the loyal fans.

“It was disappointing when our relegation was confirmed,” he told leytonorient.com

“It was tough for us as players, as well as fans. Fans seeing the team they have always supported being relegated is hard and seeing some of them cry after the game was tough.

“We will go into the game against Colchester United with a high tempo and will be giving everything for the club.

“The relegation is already confirmed but we want to end the season in the most positive fashion possible and thank the fans for all their efforts over the season.”

Semedo had the honour of representing Portugal under-21s for a three-day training camp with his fellow compatriots earlier in the week and he admitted he enjoyed every second of the experience, hoping to build on it in the future.

“When I received the notice of my call-up it was great,” he added. “It had always been a dream of mine to get called up to play for Portugal so to spend three days at the training camp was a wonderful experience. There was a double session every day and the manager and coaches were always keeping an eye to see we were doing.

“It was a great experience and now the challenge is to build on that and play for the team at some stage in the future."
