GETTING TO KNOW: Steve Davis

We take a look at the new O’s Head Coach and his career to date

The boss arrives with plenty of experience, having managed the following clubs:
-    Northwich Victoria
-    Nantwich Town
-    Crewe Alexandra

Playing Career:

Born in Birmingham, Davis started his career with Stoke City. Davis then went on to play more than 140 matches for both Crewe Alexandra and Burnley. He then played over 100 games for Barnsley in Division One, in which they won promotion to the Premier League. The final years of his playing career saw him in Cheshire with Macclesfield Town, Northwich Victoria and Nantwich Town where he was player-manager at both clubs.  

International career:

Davis was capped by the England National Youth team.

Managerial success:

Nantwich Town: Davis led Nantwich Town to two promotions in three seasons and a FA Vase victory.

Crewe Alexandra: Davis led Crewe to promotion from League Two at the end of the 2011-12 season, guiding the Railywaymen to a 2-0 victory over Cheltenham Town in the Play-Off Final.

Davis then experienced further success a year later, leading Crewe to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2013 with a 2-0 win against Southend United at Wembley Stadium.

Prior to leaving Crewe in January of this year, Davis ranked as the fourth longest serving manager in the top four divisions due to his work between the years of 2011-2017.
