The Club is delighted to confirm midfielder Charlie Lee as the O’s first team captain for the 2017-18 Vanarama National League campaign.
Lee, who joined the O’s on a free transfer in July following the expiration of his contract with Stevenage, has been handed the armband after impressing Head Coach Steve Davis throughout pre-season.
Lee, 30, will be assisted by striker David Mooney, who has been appointed Club Captain following his return to E10 this summer.
Speaking on the appointments, Head Coach Steve Davis told leytonorient.com; “Charlie is very influential and knows exactly when to be serious and when to be funny. He is a great professional and stood out to me as being our captain on the pitch.
“In David’s case, he has come back to the Club for his second spell because he can see something is happening here and wants to be a part of it.
“He did exceptionally well when he was last here, and was a fan favourite. To name David Club Captain was an easy decision, because it is a natural role for him. He likes to be at the forefront and help other people.
“We are fortunate to have a number of leaders within this dressing room such as George (Elokobi), Alex (Lawless) and Jobi (McAnuff), who will all be more than capable of stepping in when required,” he added.
“Having spoken to the staff we feel that Charlie and David are best suited to these roles, and along with the other names mentioned I want them to be my eyes and ears around the Club to ensure things are kept in check.”
Interviews with both Charlie and David on their respective appointments will be published on Ozone later today.
