U18 REPORT: Leyton Orient 0-1 Stevenage

O's youngsters left frustrated by resolute Boro

23 October 2017

The U18s were unlucky in defeat when they lost 1-0 at home to Stevenage on Saturday.

The two sides were level at halftime but a goal early in the second half gave the visitors the lead which was enough for them to see the game out as Orient were unable to find their way back in to the game.

Coach Danny Webb made one change to the starting XI from last weekend’s defeat against MK Dons. Sam Dalby returned to the team in place of Hector Kyprianou, who dropped to the bench.

A quiet opening period saw Stevenage create the only chance on the 10th minute, when a free header in the box flew high over the bar of Arthur Janata’s goal.

Neither side had created many opportunities to score in the first half until 15 minutes remained. Stevenage saw a shot from wide whistle just wide of the post after a good spell of possession.

Then, Eric Lopes tested the visitors’ keeper from distance but he was level to the effort as he denied the midfielder. As the game livened up, almost immediately the Stevenage winger flashed a cross in to the box, but nobody could poke the ball over the line.

Soon after the restart, Stevenage took the lead through Georgiou Andronicos whose deflected shot looped over Janata and in to the net.

The O’s looked to respond quick to going behind. Lopes’ goalbound shot was unlucky to be blocked by the forward run of Jaedon Phillips before the ball bounced behind for a goal kick.

A quick attack from Stevenage forced Janata in to an excellent save to deny Claudio Ofosu’s shot from long range after the midfielder created some space for himself from 20-yards out.

Orient looked to force an equaliser late on, when Charles Clayden’s powerful cross from wide ran straight across goal with nobody in a red shirt there to convert.

The second half goal from the visitors proved enough for them to leave East London with all three points.
