For the past few seasons, the club have invited local and national charities to apply for a chance to ‘bucket collect’ and fundraise at a home game, and the latest of these to be successful was Kidney Research UK who had volunteers in and around the ground at the recent match versus Tranmere Rovers.
As you can imagine, the club are inundated with requests from charities local and afar who would love the opportunity to collect at a game and due to this demand, an application process was introduced and once the new season’s fixtures are announced, games are allocated to those with a distinctive need including awareness.
“We were over the moon when told we had been selected to bucket collect at a game at Orient. We are currently only a small charity and this help and exposure is invaluable to our cause,” stated Beccy Boyle, Kidney Research UK Community Fundraising Team Lead.
“I’ve spoken to everyone who was involved on the day and they all had such a great time,” she added. “Not only do we now have brand new supporters to the charity but people found it so uplifting they’re asking me what else they can do to support us and spreading the word to more family and friends; fantastic!”
Thanks to the generosity of the directors and ultimately the fans on the day, the charity raised a super total of £644.12
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for giving us the fantastic opportunity to hold a bucket collection at the stadium on Saturday. I’m really happy with the result and would like to thank you (Howard) and the club – this has been such a success for us in so many ways,” concluded Beccy.
