The O’s CEO Danny Macklin yesterday accepted a cheque of £20,000 donated by the Supporters’ Club to go towards the purchase of a Toro Pro Core Aerator.
In his column in the Club’s previous E10 Matchday Magazine, Director Richard Emmett detailed the efforts being made by the board to ensure the pitch receives the best care possible.
“We believe it is important to have as safe and presentable a pitch for each and every game. Thus, we sought expert advice, and the consensus recommended that we purchase a high-quality ground cover to help protect the pitch from the elements.
“The Board of Directors authorised the purchase of a state-of-the-art, high-tech pitch cover that will not only help protect the pitch from rain and frost, it will also allow seeds underneath to germinate and existing turf to breathe and grow. How the cover accomplishes all these things at the same time is beyond my comprehension, but we believe that despite its significant cost, this was a purchase necessary to help provide our players with the safer and better surface that they should expect and indeed deserve.
“The experts also recommended that we acquire an improved ground aeration device to help both with water drainage and root propagation. Again, after significant research, and with the very much appreciated financial support of the LOSC, the Club recently purchased a Toro Pro Core Aerator. Together with the cover, this aerator will go a long way toward improving the quality and safety of our pitch for years to come.
