The Orient youngsters got their Merit League fixtures underway on Saturday morning and lost out to AFC Wimbledon 2-1.
Leyton Orient got the game underway in sunny conditions and Arthur Janata was called in to action within the first ten minutes to dive low to his right to stop a shot from wide hitting the back of the net.
Despite the early chance for the hosts, Orient were in control of the game and kept possession well when Hector Kyprianou’s cross was struck against the post by Jaedon Phillips.
The O’s took the lead shortly after ten minutes had passed, when lovely combination play between Lukas Rolfe and Eric Lopes allowed the former to square the ball to Phillips who made no mistake this time and swept the ball beyond the Dons ‘keeper.
Soon after the opener, AFC Wimbledon flashed a cross in front of Janata’s net, the ball only needed a touch to divert it goal-wards but there was nobody in blue alert to the chance.
After thirty minutes of play, the hosts grabbed a goal back when a quick counter saw the ball crossed to the back post where a Dons man smashed passed Janata to level the scores.
With the game square at a goal each both sides began the second half on the attack searching for the lead, leaving their defence vulnerable to the counter.
It was the hosts who found that lead after a nice passing move ended in the Dons front man firing the ball in to the top corner out of Janata’s reach five minutes before an hours play.
Kyprianou saw an effort from range comfortably gathered by the Dons ‘keeper after receiving Jaedon Phillips’ pass in space just outside of the box.
As the latter stages of the game approached, Orient began to press the Dons back line to snatch an equaliser but a quick break from the hosts saw a Dons man attempt to lob Janata from his own half after spotting the ‘keeper off his line but the Orient number one comfortably caught the ball mid-flight.
Lopes received the ball inside the box following a throw in, and fired at goal but the shot was excellently blocked by the knee of the defender before the rebound was hit high over the bar by Kyprianou.
Kyprianou was involved again when his shot was cleared off the line after Benyoucef cut the ball back to the edge of the box for the midfielder to strike at goal.
An excellent save from Janata denied the hosts stretching their lead when the ball was squared to the striker six yards from goal, to see the game end in a 2-1 defeat for the O’s.
