FC Halifax Town 1-2 Leyton Orient

O's win away to The Shaymen

30 January 2018

The O’s recorded their first league win of 2018 away to FC Halifax Town this evening as the visitors ran out 1-2 winners at The Shay Stadium.

First-half Goals from Macauley Bonne and Josh Koroma were enough to see the O’s back to E10 with three points after a well fought battle in Yorkshire.

Justin Edinburgh was forced in to making two changes to the starting XI that lost out to Aldershot on Saturday. Ebou Adams replaced the suspended Alex Lawless, while Josh Koroma started on the wing in place of James Dayton who missed out with a calf injury.

The two sides were due to meet on January 20, but a frozen pitch saw the game pushed back a week and a half.

FC Halifax Town got the game under the lights underway at The Shay but the O’s enjoyed a lot of possession early on which saw Josh Koroma and Jobi McAnuff both have shots well defended by the hosts.

Shaun Tuton then went close for the hosts soon after, as an un-cleared corner allowed the forward the space to curl an effort inches wide of the target.

The hosts began to grow in to the game but it was Orient who broke the deadlock when a through ball from Dan Holman to Macauley Bonne set the front man up for his 17th goal of the season which he took well.

The opener seemed to give the O’s confidence as they continued to attack, McAnuff’s drag back to Dan Holman was well saved by Johnson before Koroma’s effort was blocked.

Bonne went close again after a long kick from Dean Brill allowed McAnuff to cross first time for the stirker but the forward couldn’t keep his header down.

The hosts pulled one back just after the half hour mark when Tom Denton found space in the box to smash home from close range after a low cross was not dealt with.

Just after Holman saw a chance fly over the target from close range, the O’s added a second through Koroma who shook off his man wide in the box before the winger drilled a low shot in to the net.

FC Halifax Town should have had a second just before the break when Denton missed the chance to tap the ball in at the back post after Tuton found the forward free inside the box.

Orient got the second half underway and started on the front foot, Koroma continued to see a lot of the ball and linked up nicely with Bonne and Holman down the left wing.

A chance for Halifax saw Denton rise high but head higher to clear the ball of Brill’s net after Macdonald done well to get the cross in.

FC Halifax began to enjoy some possession at the hour mark and continued to probe the O’s defence but solid defending from the back line saw full-backs Jake Caprice and George Elokobi block crosses before they caused any danger.

Bonne looked for a second when Holman’s flick set his partner through on goal only to be denied by the feet of Halifax ‘keeper Sam Johnson.

Orient continued comfortably and held on for the win as FC Halifax could not breach the defence in the second half.
