COMMUNITY: O's fans contribute to 'Wrap Up London' Campaign

11 January 2018

As some of you may remember before Christmas Leyton Orient held a coat collection at the SCORE centre. This was in support of Wrap Up London, a campaign which collects donations of spare coats and jackets for those in the capital who struggle to keep warm in the winter months. Coats are distributed via homeless shelters, refugee centres, organisations supporting the elderly, women’s refuges, children’s centres and other charities helping people in crisis.

There was a fantastic response from the O’s fans and local residents and in total 122 coats were collected for the Charity.  Leyton Orient was just one of many collection points around the UK, in total over 24,000 coats were donated; 21,000 in London and 3,000 in Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.

These coats were distributed to over 100 individual Projects including; British Red Cross- Hackney Destitution Resource Centre, St Monica’s Catholic Church – Hoxton, and Clapton Community Drop-in.

“The guests at the Urban Table and Clapton Drop In today were really delighted to be choosing and trying on coats. One woman with 2 young children chose a thick waterproof coat and a lighter cardigan. Her children had longish woollen stylish coats with hoods, as well as fleeces for underneath. We gave them more than one item each because they have NO heating in their home, due to a very low income.” Clapton Community Drop-in.

Thank you again to everyone who kindly donated.
