The O’s are back in action today as they make the short trip to Rookery Hill to face East Thurrock United.
Justin Edinburgh's men returned from a week-long training camp in Albufeira, Portugal on Sunday evening, having just been pipped by Benfica B in an enthralling friendly.
The O’s took the lead in the opening minute through James Alabi, but Benfica B went into the interval with a 2-1 lead. The Portuguese side extended their lead in the second half, before an O’s fightback through Mooney, Brophy and Bonne saw them level it at 4-4. However, a last minute penalty saw Benfica B win the game 5-4.
East Thurrock United finished 15th in the National League South last season, and they defeated Canvey Island 2-1 in their opening pre-season game, goals coming from Danillo Dadamo and Gabe Kelluh.
Dale Gorman and Matt Harrold remain absentees for this evening's clash, but the former is due to return to full training this week.
Forward Ruel Sotiriou was substituted with a groin problem against Benfica B, but it is hoped that he will be available to feature tonight.
IN THE BUILD UP
"I think for us going forward it shows that we can mix it physically and play some good football so the future bodes well"
