COMMUNITY: Leyton Orient Trust Students Celebrated in Awards Ceremony

15 May 2018

A student from Leyton Orient Trust’s college study programme has won a Jack Petchey Award. Kristian who is studying for a Level 1 BTEC Diploma in Sport qualification, was nominated by his teachers for his positive attitude, excellent behaviour in the classroom, around the college and on the playing field. Kristian was awarded a certificate and £250 Achievement Award Grant to spend on something that would benefit the college.

Kristian, student, said: “I’m excited about winning this award. I wasn’t expecting it, but I’m really proud of myself. I’m not sure how I’ll spend the prize just yet, but it’ll probably be a trip somewhere – something fun we can all do together as a whole class. It’s fantastic knowing that I’ve been doing great and that the teachers have seen it and appreciated it as well.”

Lloyd Boateng, Kristian’s Teacher, said: “Kristian has been a professional student both academically and for the Leyton Orient Trust College football team. Kristian plays an integral part within lessons and is a role model amongst his peers.”

The award was announced at a ceremony at the Matchroom Stadium attended by teachers and students, as well as special guest; Kent Teague, Vice-Chairman and Principal Investor, Leyton Orient Football Club and Joy Kettyle, Principal, Waltham Forest College.

Other awards handed out at the event included recognition to 15 students who achieved 95% - 100% attendance during a three-week challenge. Three students were picked at random to win £50, £75 and £100 Westfield Vouchers.

Andree Selner, Head of Education, said: “It was great to see an increase in numbers in learners eligible for the prize draw this term with 95-100% attendance over the three week period before and after the Easter Break. It was also fantastic to have Joy and Kent there to recognise the learners’ achievements this term and emphasises the close partnership we have with Waltham Forest College and Leyton Orient Football Club.”
