COMMUNITY: Lee and Mooney make visit to St. Joseph's

8 May 2018

David Mooney and Charlie Lee took time out after training on a Thursday afternoon recently and paid a visit to local Hackney hospice, St. Joseph’s.

Now a regular attendee at the hospice in Mare Street, Mooney helped out as the afternoon ‘Bingo’ caller for the day patients with Lee a winner on his first full-house!!

“It’s always a pleasure to come back to St. Joseph’s,” said Mooney. “It’s such a humbling place and the staff are fantastic. And I always seem to meet someone from my home country so it’s lovely to reminisce and chat”.

The club have been a supporter of the hospice for many years and were due to be hosting them as fundraisers, along with children’s hospice Haven House, at the game versus Maidenhead on Easter Monday that was unfortunately postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

However, St. Joseph’s were able to attend on the following Saturday when the O’s played Barrow and thanks to the generosity of the fans, both home and away, a fantastic total of £482.13 was raised.

Emma Harris, fundraising assistant at St. Joseph’s, commented, “We’re always pleased to welcome Leyton Orient and the player’s to St. Joseph’s. David [Mooney] has been popping in for many years and is always a pleasure and it was great to meet Charlie Lee. They brought some smiles to our day patients and we were all looking forward to attending our annual fundraising game. The supporters are always generous and the patients and staff that attend always have a wonderful day. We’d like to thank the club for their continued support and to see Orient win 4-1, it just made the day a complete success!”
