REPORT: Leyton Orient 4-0 Havant & Waterlooville

27 October 2018

Orient recorded a convincing 4-0 win over Havant & Waterlooville at the Breyer Group Stadium this afternoon.

Goals from Josh Coulson, Charlie Lee and a Macauley Bonne brace saw Justin Edinburgh's men over the line.

Orient got the game underway and kicked towards the Q2W Tommy Johnston Stand for the opening 45.

The O’s registered their first attempt on goal after 11 minutes when Sam Ling found James Dayton in space 20-yards from goal but the effort was high of the target.

Two minutes later, Dayton’s whipped free-kick found the head of Charlie Lee at the back post, his header was saved by Ben Dudzinski but only as far as Josh Coulson who tapped home into an empty net to open the scoring.

The goal advantage gave the O’s a further boost as the free-flowing attacking football continued and the lead was doubled just minutes later.

Jobi McAnuff’s corner from the left, flicked on by Bonne at the near post, took a touch from Havant defender Dan Strugnell before the ball flew past Dudzinski into the top corner of the net.

Shortly before the half-hour mark, McAnuff strolled into the box following Macauley Bonne’s pass and cut the ball back for Josh Koroma whom in-turn found Craig Clay in space but the midfielder’s low drive was well saved by Dudzinski.

The perfect start saw Orient control the game completely, Josh Koroma’s low cross found Bonne inside the box but Hawks defender Ed Harris was touch tight to the forward to block the shot on goal.

Things got even better for the O’s after 39 minutes, Charlie Lee picked up a loose ball in the centre of the field, advanced on goal and fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net to make it 3-0 from 20-yards.

Two minutes from half-time, Lewis attempted to make up for his earlier contribution to Bonne's goal when he popped up in the O’s box but couldn’t keep his header on target as the first half ended.

The first chance of the second half fell to the O’s and it was the goal scorer Coulson whose header looped just over the bar.

Seconds later, Dayton was set through on goal by the touch of Koroma. The wide-man prodded the ball goalwards but Dudzinski was there to tip the ball behind before the referee Martin Woods awards a goal-kick.

Koroma and Dayton linked up again moments later, the latter connected with the forwards pass inside the box but watched the ball fly inches over the target.

Bonne came close to adding a fourth for the O’s Clay’s through ball saw the forward in on goal but strike his excellent effort against the post.

Minutes later, Friday’s birthday boy Bonne found the back of the net after he linked up with Clay for the second time before the forward slotted past the ‘keeper for Orient’s fourth of the day.

Orient continued their dominance late in the second half, Coulson found himself in the box and on the end of McAnuff’s set-piece but Dudzinski was quick to react and collect the danger.

The Hawks attacked the O’s but found themselves on the back of a counter when Koroma advanced towards goal and unselfishly squared for Bonne, but the forwards first-time shot was scuffed.

Three minutes remained when newly introduced James Brophy found namesake Alabi inside the box he attempted to finish acrobatically but saw his effort off target.

As three minutes additional time was announced, Hawks’ Alex Bradley fired wide of Dean Brill’s net when he tried his luck 20-yards from goal.

The O's saw the remainder of the game out comfortably and recorded an emphatic victory at the Breyer Group Stadium.

After consecutive away trips to Eastleigh and AFC Fylde, plus a fixtureless weekend due to the FA Cup, the O’s are not back at home until Saturday 17 November when Bromley are our visitors in our latest Football for a Fiver fixture.
