U18 REPORT: Leyton Orient 2-5 Barnet

15 October 2018

Leyton Orient’s U18s travelled to The Hive on Saturday morning, where Barnet beat them 5-2 in goal-infested game.

Bradley McClenaghan and Charles Clayden both netted late in the second half, after Orient had fell five goals behind

Barnet took the lead early on, from the penalty spot, after Wynford Marfo brought down an orange shirt whilst chasing a loose ball.

Barnet doubled their lead just after 20 minutes. The Bees number 11, drove deep into the Orient half before hefired an low effort into the bottom corner of the net from 25-yards out.

Orient Goalkeeper Sean Campbell made a couple of phenomenal saves to deny Barnet adding to their tally in the first half.

First, a brilliant save down to his right after the Barnet forward sent a half-volley dipping towards the bottom right corner from the edge of the box. The second, a similar save, though with the forward closer to goal, Campbell had to react quicker to get down to save block the ball.

O’s struggled to make a clear cut chance in the first half, but had glimpses as Charles Clayden and Lawrence Hammond put the ball into the box as often as possible. Tom Mulqueen nearly executed a wonder strike from 30-yards, but the midfielder’s effort marginally missed the target.

Jaedon Phillips and Claydon both simultaneously saw their efforts blocked by the home side’s centre-back moments before the referee blew his whistle for half time.

The hosts scored their third goal after 56 minutes. A simple tap in following a good save from Campbell from point blank range, however the ball ricocheted into the forwards feet for a simple finish.

The fourth goal soon followed. Campbell came for a cross from the left but misjudged it as the ball dropped behind the 'keeper which left the Barnet forward the easy task of tapping the ball in to an empty net.

Barnet’s fifth and final goal came 20 minutes from time. A classy build up, saw the ball played across the penalty area where an orange shirt could pick their spot and make the score-line 5-0.

Bradley McClenaghan pulled one back for the O’s tapping in from close range after neatly controlling a driven ball from Clayden in the box.

Clayden Himself then netted Orient’s second. A calm penalty into the bottom corner after Marfo was brought down whilst competing to win the ball from a corner-kick. It was too little too late and the full-time whistle soon followed Orient’s penalty.

The young side continue their cup run in the FA Youth Cup this Wednesday. An away visit to AFC Rushden and Diamonds sees the two sides compete in the 3rd round qualifier, with the winner entering the first round proper of the competition.
