COMMUNITY: Orient fans invited to launch of 80 Years in Leyton exhibition.

The 80 Years in Leyton exhibition will be available to view for the first time on Saturday 29 September 2018 at The Breyer Group Stadium.

Leyton Orient Football Club moved to its current home in Leyton from Clapton in 1937. Since then the area, and the football Club has seen many changes. The exhibition is a collection of stories and memories collected from fans and local residents of Leyton about the past 80 years.

Over the past year, local young people have played a key role in collecting and creating content for the exhibition. Leyton Orient Trust College Study Programme students were trained in research and filming techniques to interview local residents about their memories. Students from Willowfield School, Walthamstow, created various pieces of artwork to represent key moments in Orient’s history in Leyton.

O’s fans attending the home game against Sutton United are welcome to visit the second floor in the West Stand to view the exhibition from 2pm. Those with tickets to the Legends Lounge are welcome to view from 2pm and at half-time. All ticket holders are welcome post-match.  

There will also half time performance on the pitch from local Performing Arts Group X7eaven, involving 28 11-15 year-old local dancers and singers, who will be perform an excerpt from their tribute to Orient legend, Laurie Cunningham.

Neil Taylor, Chief Executive, Leyton Orient Trust said: “We are absolutely delighted to present the research undertaken by our young participants. It has been a special project for us bringing together and we have really enjoyed developing it. We hope that the resources produced will be of benefit and give an insight into why Orient is important to so many people in the local community.”

80 Years in Leyton is a project led by Leyton Orient Trust and Eastside Community Heritage, made possible with funding from Heritage Lottery Fund.
