NEWS: Phil Hoadley and Barrie Fairbrother to return to E10 on September 29

18 September 2018

The Club are delighted to receive confirmation that Club legends Phil Hoadley and Barrie Fairbrother will return to The Breyer Group Stadium on September 29 for the game against Sutton United.

Fairbrother, one of the most popular players of his era, joined the O's as a 15-year-old in 1967 and made his first-team debut against Mansfield Town on August 30 1969, scoring the winning goal in the 48th minute.

He became a major part of the side that secured the Division Three title that season, and is remembered for scoring a last-gasp winner against Chelsea in the FA Cup Fifth-Round match of 1972. Voted as Player of the Year in 1974, Fairbrother departed for Millwall having made 211 appearances for the O's, scoring 50 times.

The forward, who notably was only booked on one occasion for an accidental collision, made 15 appearances for The Lions before emigrating to Australia where he has lived ever since.

Barrie will be in the UK for the first time in 30 years, and will be presented on the pitch, while holding a Q&A session in the 1881 Suite, against Sutton United so we encourage all supporters to help provide a warm welcome for a Club hero.

Furthermore, the Club are pleased to be welcoming Phil Hoadley to the match - the former-O's defender played nearly 300 times for the Club between 1972-1978 and is remembered as one of the greatest defenders to have graced E10.
