Orient made their game in hand count after today's 3-2 victory over promotion hopefuls Eastleigh at The Breyer Group Stadium.
Josh Koroma notched a goal between Paul McCallum's brace before a second-half come back through Macauley Bonne and James Brophy completed a wonderful comeback in E10.
Head Coach Justin Edinburgh made two changes to the side that drew against Halifax, Sam Ling and Marvin Ekpiteta came in for Charlie Lee and Jay Simpson.
Eastleigh went close after four minutes when Paul McCallum’s header from a corner was headed clear by James Brophy who took up an excellent position on the line.
McCallum’s next header was on target this time and it looped over the dive of Dean Brill following a good cross from the right flank.
It was again, a blistering start in E10, and the O’s responded excellently to going behind. Sam Ling’s long throw was flicked to the back-post by Macauley Bonne where Josh Koroma waited to tap home and draw us level.
The game had finally settled after 17 frantic minutes, and Orient looked the most comfortable on the ball. Koroma was getting joy on the right and beat Cavaghn Miley for pace and attempted to find Brophy on the pull-back but blue bodies managed to scramble the ball clear of danger.
However, it was Eastleigh who regained their lead three minutes later, McCallum was there again in the box to nod home from a similar position to his first, against the run of play.
Edinburgh was forced into a first-half change when Alex Lawless picked up a head injury, James Dayton was his replacement and he slotted into midfield.
Orient made a positive start to the second-half and got their reward after 57 minutes. Brill started an excellent counter which involved Clay and Brophy before the latter found the run of Widdowson on the left, his cross dropped for Bonne to slam home on the turn for the leveller.
Four minutes later, we took the lead for the first time in the game, Ling & Dayton’s give and go inside the box set the former free to run to the by-line and square for Brophy to tap into and open net.
Eastleigh remained a threat on the counter and Michael Green flashed a shot inches wide of Brill’s net after a cross from the right ran wide of the target area.
McCallum went close to a third when he connected with Mark Yeates’ whipped free-kick luckily for the O’s his attempt was high and win of the danger zone.
Orient were able to comfortably hold on for the three points despite pressure from Eastleigh who looked dangerous as they attacked in numbers.
The victory saw the O’s return back to the top of the table and now sit two points clear at the summit.
