The O's are through to the Fourth Round of the FA Trophy after today's 1-0 victory over Blyth Spartans.
Jamie Turley's 84th minutes header ensured victory for Orient at The Breyer Group Stadium.
Head Coach Justin Edinburgh made a number of changes to the starting XI, Myles Judd, Jayden Sweeney, Dale Gorman, Alex Lawless, James Brophy, James Alabi, and Matt Harrold all came in to the side.
Orient got us underway in chilly conditions at The Breyer Group Stadium and we registered the first chance on goal. Jordan Maguire-Drew broke down the left wing, cut on to his right foot but saw Peter Jameson equally deny to the attempt.
Just inside the opening ten minutes, the visitors went close for the first-time when Daniel Maguire struck over thanks to a deflection from inside the area.
Orient certainly had the better of the chances at the half-way point of the opening half. Shortly before the 20-minute mark, Maguire-Drew’s corner found its way to Alex Lawless at the back post where the midfielder took a touch before firing at Jameson who blocked well.
Orient’s number 10 was heavily involved and again had a shot from distance held by Jameson in the Blyth goal after he skilfully passed his marker and forced the shot stopper to palm the ball behind for a corner kick.
30 minutes were on the clock when James Brophy found Dale Gorman 25-yards from goal, the Northern Irishman set himself but hit the effort inches high of the target.
A golden opportunity went begging for the O’s when Maguire-Drew’s perfect set-piece fell to the free Alabi in the centre of the box, but the frontman couldn’t find the target with his header.
The visitors got us back underway for the second half before Shadrach Ogie was introduced to the crowd for his debut.
Maguire-Drew swung another good corner kick into the box but the ball somehow avoided all in red until it fell to Dan Happe at the back post but his goal-ward shot was off target.
Connor Oliver tested Dean Brill after his effort from a free-kick 25-yards forced the number one in to a smart dive down to his right.
70 minutes had gone when Blyth registered another decent effort on goal, Maguire involved again when he dragged his shot across the face of goal under pressure from Turley.
The majority of possession belonged to the O’s in the final stages, Lawless found Brophy on the edge of the box but the wingers deflected effort.
The aerial threat of Jamie Turley proved potent in the final five minutes when the central defender powered a header beyond the ‘keeper following Dale Gorman’s wide free-kick.
Blyth threatened to send the tie to a replay in the North East but for a wonderful Brill save before goal-scorer Turley threw his body at the rebounded shot.
The game ended in victory for the O’s who now progress to the fourth-round of the FA Trophy
