On Saturday 16 February, Leyton Orient Football Club played host to local families for a Sugar Smart workshop. The event, held in The Hub, was part of Waltham Forest Council’s support of the Change 4 Life campaign.
12 Pupils, and their parents, from Woodside Primary School, Walthamstow, took part in a workshop hosted by a Nutritionist to learn about the simple swaps to everyday food and drinks which can help cut back on sugar consumption.
Staff from Leyton Orient Trust supported the event, talking with families and handing out Change 4 Life resource packs to fans.
The interactive session included; the science behind respiration and using energy; and why our bodies needed energy.
Afterwards the group were invited to be flag bearers at the start of the match.
Shackeria Yacoob, Nutritionist, said: “The football venue and match day was a positive environment to implement this event as the children were able to relate to sports, their role models and the importance of being healthy.”
