LOWFC PREVIEW: Ipswich Town Ladies (A)

28 February 2019

The O’s women’s team return to FA Women’s National League action with a trip to face Ipswich Town Ladies at The Goldstar Ground this Sunday.

Orient have enjoyed a positive run of results, booking their place in two cup finals and returning to winning ways in the league against Cambridge United Women.

Chris Brayford’s side reside fourth in South East Division One with 24 points having won seven, drawn three and lost six of their 16 league games this season.

On Wednesday, Orient edged past Enfield Town Ladies with Sophie Le Marchand’s second half header helping the O’s into the Isthmian Cup final on April 17th.

Now, their focus must return to their league exploits where they will be hoping to continue their good run of form and finish the season strongly.

Our Opponents

As for Ipswich Town Ladies, they sit eighth in the division with 16 points having won four, drawn four and lost six of their 14 league matches.

In their most recent outing, they enjoyed a resounding 14-0 victory over Brantham Athletic in the County Cup on home turf.

Town will be eager to put their run of four league games without a win to an end against the O’s this weekend.

Key Players

Orient midfielder Egle Trezzi has produced some exceptional displays in recent weeks. She helped herself to two exquisite assists in the victory over Cambridge, while proving a physical presence in her defensive duties. Trezzi is a crucial part of the O’s starting line-up, who can conjure up attacking plays and protect the back four to great effect.

Ipswich have seen five different goal scorers during the last four games in which they have found the net. Paige Wakefield netted against the O’s when the teams met back in November, also scoring in the Tractor Girls 3-1 defeat to Enfield Town Ladies on 3rd February. She will surely be looking to cause Orient problems again this time around.

A Look at the Stats

  • Orient will be looking to secure their fourth consecutive victory this weekend.
  • This is the O’s fifth straight away game in a run of seven matches on the road.
  • They have scored in each of their previous four games.
  • Ipswich have taken one point from 12 available in the league during 2019.
  • Town have gone two home league games without a victory.
  • However, they hit 14 goals without reply in their latest cup match at home.
